Announcing Evernote Integration

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

This is a busy week here at Lil’Grams, to say the least. We’ve been hard at working trying to make the lives of our parents simpler and those of their loved ones happier. Today, we’re happy to announce another quick step in that direction.

What’s Evernote?

Evernote is an amazing note taking application that lets you, basically. remember everything. Evernote works from almost every device, from your desktop to your mobile. With more than 3 million happy users already, it’s clearly helping tons of people stay on top of things.

Why Evernote?

When we first met the crew at Evernote, we were quite pleased to hear that one of the original goals for the app was to help parents capture a child’s day to day things. It’s no wonder Evernote makes it super simple to capture photos, audio, notes and more. Apparently, that heritage lives on.

It turns out that tons of parents are using Evernote already. They’re tracking new words, special photos, and lots of other great moments from their baby’s life. Of course, we’re convinced that moments are memories until they’re shared – and sharing’s what we’re awesome at.

How’s It Work?

With Lil’Grams and Evernote, you now have the ultimate memory sharing system. Evernote will let you take notes from you phone, email, the web and more. Lil’Grams will take those notes, beautify them, and instantly share them with your loved ones via email, facebook, twitter and more.

Why Should I Try This?

If you’re not using Evernote already, we definitely think you’ll like the benefits:

  • Mobile clients for iphone, android and more
  • Background syncing for your notes, photos and more
  • Rich formatting for your grams – mix text and photos with ease!

Automatic Grams from Flickr & Facebook

Monday, July 12th, 2010

We’re very excited to announce a new set of features today that we still smile at when we see it in action: Automatic Albums. We’ve spoken with hundreds of parents and they consistently tell us that they love Lil’Grams, though they really love their Flickr and Facebook accounts for storing their photos.

Our mission is to help you be the best memory maker, no matter where your photos are. To that end, your Flickr and Facebook albums will be imported, beautified, and delivered automatically as you create them – just setup your keywords and we’ll do the rest.

Going Automatic

Get Started Now!

Getting started is super simple:

  1. Load up your Accounts (preferences > accounts)
  2. Setup your keywords (words we should keep track of)
  3. We check your account every few hours or so for new matching albums
  4. We create new MediaGrams and deliver them to loved ones

Brand New User Guides

As part of this new release, we’ve created 2 new guides to answer all your questions:

Some Small, But Important, Updates

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

We’ve been pretty quiet the last couple of weeks as we have been working on a new, very exciting feature for Lil’Grams that we can’t just yet announce. Stay tuned until next week for that news.

In the meantime, we’ve made a couple of small changes worth noting.

Add More Babies!

While we focused on adding in and updating a number of features over the past couple of months, we also moved some out. We’ve had several requests to be able to add more than one baby to your account and that option is now back.

Whenever you add a new baby, your address book is automatically copied over to the new baby’s account.

Preferences Panel

A few of our parents have let us know that they’re taking advantage of our email gram posting. This is great and we hope to see even more of you going this right. One small issue that occurred, though, was that grams weren’t getting sent out to loved ones – our default security setting was that only parents could see a gram.

You can now change your default sharing preferences from within your Baby’s Details page. You’ll also notice some new options which will be coming very soon!

Twitter Sharing and Sign In

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

When we first created Lil’Grams, we were looking for something that was somewhere in between a blog and twitter. Of course, that doesn’t mean that we have anything against blogs or twitter :)

For many moments, especially the really special ones, you may want to share the event with everyone – even your “friends” on Twitter. We’re happy to report that you can now do this whenever you like.

Public Sharing Options To share a public link to Twitter, simply check the box for your Twitter account.

Don’t see this box? Head over to your preference and link your account first.

Also, if you happen to have your Twitter account linked to your Lil’Grams account, you can now sign in with that instead.

Remembering, Simplified

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

We’re always looking for ways to make your life easier and we’re happy to highlight a new feature that goes a long way towards helping you the perfect historian.

Lil’Grams has 2 great ways to assist in remembering when things happen:

1. Magic Dates

With our Magic Dates, all you have to do is upload a photo for your gram and we’ll do our best to determine when your photo was taken. After they’re uploaded, we’ll give you a list of possible dates to choose from.

2. Guesstimates

Sometimes, you have a vague idea when something happened. If we can’t guess for you, you can make your own guess. Just choose how old your child was and we’ll put in the right approximate date.

Import Albums from Facebook, Flickr, or Picasa with One Click

Monday, May 24th, 2010

We’ve found that more and more of our parents would like to share and manage their media in a number of different ways. For many, this means having better ways to utilize the services you’ve already been using like Facebook, Flickr and Picasa.

We’re happy to let you know that we’ve added one-click importing for your remote albums. It’s very simple to use and will help you share hard-to-link-to albums from any service with ease while keeping them a part of your baby’s timeline.

To import new albums, simply click the New Album tab in your Dashboard:

New Album Tab

As soon as you click “Import” we’ll:

1. Create a new Media Gram
2. Link the photos to your baby’s timeline
3. Send out notifications to anyone who’s waiting

Here’s a sample of what gets mailed out:

That’s it, a few clicks and hundreds of photos can be imported and delivered to your loved ones!

Update: E-mail Fully Functional!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

First, allow us to apologize for the uneven email behavior you may have experienced over the last couple of weeks.  We noticed an issue cropping up where more and more of our emails were not making it to your Inbox.  Many thanks to our parents who alerted us to the issue.

So what went wrong?

Unfortunately, the world is overrun with spam and that has made it increasingly hard for honest folks, like ourselves, to get email messages delivered to those who want it.  Most email providers these days have built in a number of different defense mechanisms to keep your email account as pristine as possible.

While we had taken many of the initial steps required, we didn’t go quite far enough.  There were a few settings that we didn’t anticipate needing, but it turns our that we did — no two email providers have the same rules and that means making lots of small adjustments until everyone is satisfied.

Two weeks ago, our host had a range of their IP addresses added to a “blacklist”.  Basically, a blacklist is a listing of servers that can’t be trusted and many email providers, like Hotmail, consult with these blacklists before determining if they’ll accept and incoming email message.

Let me assure you that we were not involved in any sort of spamming of any nature and there were no reports on our behavior.  In this instance, our host had a problem and it took quite a bit longer than expected to get the issue sorted out and our server back into the good graces of the email gods.

I’m happy to report that email is arriving happily in the inboxes or Google, Yahoo, and Hotmail users.  We welcome you letting us know if you continue to see issues.

Most importantly, we recognize the incredible importance of our email system and we’re preparing to take our email delivery to the next level.  While this area is manageable from our end, we’d rather know we can have a dedicated team on the job.  We will shortly be moving our email delivery to a secure, hosted partner that monitors and tracks delivery 24/7.  This will keep your memories safe, secure, and delivered.
